Also come see information and photos on the latest - and soon to be available - electric vehicles by major auto manufacturers.
ECO-KIDS EXHIBIT

The Eco-Kids exhibit at the 2009 Idaho Green Expo is going to be awesome!  Activities for kids will be many, varied, and tons of fun.  A dozen booths will be staffed by agencies, organizations and individuals dedicated to the environment – and to connecting children with nature.

A central play area will feature games and activities designed to capture kids' imaginations and teach them about the natural world.  A performance area will provide entertainment featuring lots of audience participation.  Finally, a fantastic sculpture will evolve over the weekend from a metal form to a colorful bird embodied in yards of scrap fabric.

Booths will include activities like Polar Bear Jeopardy, bird puppets and nest building, make your own Binoculars, exploding volcano, making and preventing water pollution with the Enviroscape Storm Water Model, exploring zoo animals, learn about trees and forestry, investigating local animals, and more.

Presenters include Idaho Fish and Game's Watchable Wildlife Program, Boise Community Forestry, Courtney White, MK Nature Center, Zoo Boise, Discovery Center of Idaho, Boise WaterShed, Foothills Learning Center, and Boise State University's GK-12 Fellows.

The Games area will feature:  Recycle Relay; the Amazing Stormwater Maze; and lots more games that teach great nature lessons in a fun, active play environment.

Game leaders will include Foothills Learning Center, Boise City Mobile Rec, and Boise WaterShed.

Performing throughout the weekend will be hip hop dance teacher Clay Lee, Joy Steiner's amazing storytelling, puppet theater, music and drumming with local artists, and more.

Local metal artist Charlie Wilkerson will create the metal form of a large, fantastic bird using reused metal.  Children attending the Expo will tie scrap material onto the frame, resulting in a wonderful, colorful sculpture that will be donated to the Idaho Green Expo.

GREENING THE GROVE UPDATE!

Greening the Grove

Greening the Grove gets the Green Light!

The concept of Greening the Grove has gone through a few permutations.  It started with the simple concept of installing solar panels on the Grove to help power the events held there.  That idea quickly turned into the dream of building a permanent stage on the Grove with a solar paneled roof.  Then after that idea was batted around a bit, the cost and complexity was greater then everyone first thought, and that would have taken years to bring about.  It's still a dream though.

However, we have now returned back to where we started, with the simple idea of bringing solar power to the Grove, but this time with one very interesting and timely twist.  The City of Boise is in the process of converting many street lights in downtown to LED lamps, which save a lot of energy and money.  A solar panel system would most likely provide enough energy to power all of the new LED street lamps in the Grove.

GreenWorks Idaho raised over $6,000 at last year's Idaho Green Expo to contribute to the concept of Greening the Grove, and we our planning to raise some additional funds at the 2009 Expo.

You too can help to make this project become a reality by offsetting your own carbon footprint.  At the Expo volunteers will be available to help you calculate the carbon your home, car and even airline travel produce, and you can offset that carbon by contributing to the clean energy and energy efficiency projects GreenWorks will be supporting, such as Greening the Grove.

If you don't want to wait until the Expo to offset your carbon footprint, you can do it yourself by visiting www.greenworksidaho.org/carbon-neutral.asp.
